Allison Virtue is an Associate Clinical Social Worker who helps people figure out what a good life looks like and walk the path to getting there. She has experience working with people who are recovering from trauma, managing life with ADHD, coping with the transitions that come with aging and grief, navigating disability, and experiencing depression and anxiety.
With over twenty years of experience in social work, Allison has partnered with people from all walks of life including service members and their families, LGBTQ folks, people who have complex medical concerns, individuals and loved ones struggling with addiction, and older adults. She has been an advocate, an educator, and a source of practical resources. She brings that experience to her work as a therapist.
Allison provides a tailored approach to suit each individual’s needs, using mindfulness tools, somatic interventions, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), trauma informed stabilization therapy (TIST), and collaborative problem solving. Allison prioritizes culturally informed terapy – she knows that we are deeply influenced by the cultures and families that form us, that biases and prejudice from others can change how we move through the world, and different people have very different “normals.” Allison views therapy as partnering with a client who is an expert in their own lives and who has the final say in what works, what doesn’t, and how to find the path to healing.
Outside of work, Allison enjoys spending time with loved ones, reading for fun and education, and is an enthusiastic learner of new skills – she is currently learning how to bind books. Creativity, curiosity, and compassion are guiding principles of her personal life and professional practice.
