If you or a family member has been referred for psychological testing, you probably have some questions about what to expect. You may have heard about psychological testing and wonder if you or a family member would benefit from be tested. Psychological testing (also referred to as assessment or evaluation) may sound intimidating, but it’s designed to help you. Psychological testing is a process of combining observation, self and others report, and specific measures (intelligence tests, achievement tests, personality tests, etc.) to tell a story about a person and their behavior, personality and capabilities. Testing allows a psychologist to understand the nature of the problem, and to figure out the best way to go about addressing it.
